AMP in Email
AMP for Email is also now available for emails to be formatted and sent as AMP documents. As a part of this, we’re kicking off the Gmail Developer Preview of AMP for Email — so once you’ve built your emails, you’ll be able to test them in Gmail. A better way to track your promotions on Google Play Billing
Starting today, the API for Purchases.products will return “Promo” as a new value for the field purchaseType when the user redeems a promo code. This improvement to the Google Play Developer API makes it easier to track your promotions from your own backend. For more details and links to the docs, check out the post.
Go 1.10
Go 1.10 is now available. It includes automatic caching of build & test results as well as hundreds of other, smaller changes. Links to the release notes and the download page are on the post.
Firebase Cloud Messaging
You can now integrate your server-side applications with the Firebase Cloud Messaging v1 API using the Firebase Admin SDKs, which allows you to send messages and manage topic subscriptions. Check out the post for some code and links to the docs.
96 vCPU Compute Engine instances
Compute Engine machine types with 96 vCPUs and up to 624 GB of memory are now generally available. For applications that can scale vertically, you can leverage all 96 vCPUs to decrease the number of VMs needed to run your applications, while reducing your total cost of ownership. Android KTX
Android KTX is a set of extensions designed to make writing Kotlin code for Android more concise, idiomatic, and pleasant. It provides an API layer on top of both Android framework and Support Library and the preview is now available. Head on over to the post for a video, code, and link to the GitHub repo.
Chrome 65 Beta
The new Server Timing API, in Chrome 65 Beta, allows web servers to pass performance timing information via HTTP headers to browsers. This new API provides you with a more complete performance picture that includes the speed of both the client and the server. Other features in this release are listed on the post.
A secure web
Beginning in July 2018 with the release of Chrome 68, Chrome will mark all HTTP sites as “not secure”. HTTPS is easier and cheaper than ever before, and it unlocks both performance improvements and powerful new features that are too sensitive for HTTP. Cloud TPUs
Cloud TPUs are now available in beta on Google Cloud Platform to help machine learning experts train and run their ML models more quickly. TPU stands for “Tensor Processing Unit”, and each Cloud TPU board contains four custom chips that Google has designed in-house specifically for machine learning. You’ll need to request quota to get started — more details and the sign-up form are on the post.
GPUs in Kubernetes Engine
GPUs in Kubernetes Engine are now in beta and ready to be used widely from the latest Kubernetes Engine release. Using GPUs in Kubernetes Engine can turbocharge compute-intensive applications like machine learning (ML), image processing and financial modeling.
