Flutter Beta 1

The first beta release of Flutter is now available. Flutter is Google’s new mobile UI framework that helps developers craft high-quality native interfaces for both iOS and Android. Get started today with the post.

Hangouts Chat platform and API

You can now craft your own bot integrations using the Hangouts Chat developer platform and API. With feature-rich, intelligent bots, users can automate tasks, get critical information or do other heavy-lifting with a simple message. For example code and a link to the docs, head on over to the post.

Improving Stability

We’ve been working to ensure that apps don’t use non-SDK interfaces, since doing so risks crashes for users and emergency rollouts for developers. In Android N, we restricted the set of symbols that C and C++ code could use. Starting in the next release of Android, we will further increase stability by expanding these restrictions to cover the interfaces of the SDK. Head on over to the post for some more details and what’s next.

Cloud Datastore

Managed import and export for Cloud Datastore is now generally available. Cloud Datastore is our highly scalable NoSQL managed database service. This feature replaces the previous Cloud Datastore Admin backup module, and provides a more fully managed database experience. Links to the docs are on the post.

Cloud Billing Catalog API

The Cloud Billing Catalog API joins the Google Cloud Billing API to help you manage your billing experience. With it, you can predict bills, estimate costs, and reconcile rates when you’re using list Google Cloud Platform pricing. Links to the docs are on the post.

With Dart 2, we’ve dramatically strengthened and streamlined the type system, cleaned up the syntax, and rebuilt much of the developer tool chain from the ground up to make mobile and web development more enjoyable and productive. Code and instructions on getting the pre-release are on the post.

Managing Compute Engine instances

If you use Compute Engine, you probably spend a lot of time creating, cloning, and managing VM instances. It just got easier. You can now create instances from existing instance templates, create instance templates based on existing VM instances, create multiple persistent disks as part of the virtual machine instance creation workflow, protect your VMs from accidental deletion by setting a simple flag… and more. Links to the docs are on the post.

Cloud IoT Core

Cloud IoT Core is our fully managed service to help securely connect and manage IoT devices at scale. With it, you can easily connect and centrally manage millions of globally dispersed connected devices. And it is now generally available. More details and links to get started are on the post.

Mobile Speed Scorecard and Impact Calculator

According to Google data from 2016, 53% of visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes more than three seconds to load. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we introduced the mobile Speed Scorecard: an easy-to-use tool that allows you to compare your mobile speed with other companies. For examples and a link to the tool, head on over to the post.
