Google Developer Days are coming to Europe

You can now register for Google Developer Days Europe, taking place on September 5th and 6th, in Krakow, Poland. We’ll showcase our latest developer product and platform updates to help you develop high quality apps, grow & retain an active user base, and tap into tools to earn more. There’ll be technical talks, hands-on training sessions, and 1:1 time with Googlers and members of our Google Developers Experts community. The link to register is on the post.

Google Play Indie Games Festival

Also happening in September is the Google Play Indie Games Festival in San Francisco on the 23rd. If you’re an indie developer based in the US or Canada and want to submit your game, you have until August 6th. Just head on over to the post.

Android Things Console developer preview

We recently launched a developer preview of the Android Things Console which allows you to manage the software running on your fleet of Android Things IoT devices, including creating factory images, as well as updating the operating system and developer-provided APKs. Google People API

The Google People API now has write endpoints that allow you to create, delete, and update a single contact as well as contact group endpoints to read and write contact groups. Code and screenshots are on the post.

Cloud Functions Realtime Database Triggers

Starting with the firebase-functions module version 0.5.9, there are now three new types of database triggers you can write: onCreate(), onUpdate(), and onDelete(). To see how this can make your code more efficient, check out the post.

Google Cloud Platform now open in London

You can now use the new Google Cloud Platform region in London to run applications and store data in London. This is our tenth region and joins our existing European region in Belgium. Details including the available zones and services are on the post.

Kubernetes 1.7 on Container Engine

Google Container Engine now runs Kubernetes 1.7 and includes differentiated features for enterprise security, extensibility, hybrid networking and developer efficiency. Details are on the post.

Android O APIs are final

We’re rolling out Developer Preview 3 with the final Android O APIs, the latest system images, and an update to Android Studio to help you get ready for the consumer release later in the summer. If you’ve already enrolled your device in the Android Beta Program, you’ll receive an update to Developer Preview 3 shortly. To make your app compatible with Android O and enhance it with Android O features and APIs; check out the post.

Google Play Billing Library

Developer Preview 1 of the Play Billing Library is now available. This library aims to simplify the development process when it comes to billing, allowing you to focus your efforts on implementing logic specific to your app, such as application architecture and navigation structure. Introducing reCAPTCHA Android API

There is now a reCAPTCHA Android API as part of Google Play Services. It uses our newest Invisible reCAPTCHA technology, which runs risk analysis behind the scenes and has enabled millions of human users to pass through with zero click everyday.

Introducing Blockly 1.0 for Android and iOS

Blockly is our open source library for creating block-based coding experiences. The 1.0 release is now available on Android and iOS. To get started, a video and all the links are on the post.

Making Dynamic Links Easier

The latest set of improvements to Firebase Dynamic Links are now available in our iOS and Android SDKs. Included is the ability to create user-to-user sharing campaigns programmatically from within your app and a rebuilt Android API to make it easier to handle incoming Dynamic Links into your app. Example code is on the post.

App Engine update

You can now manage both your custom domains and SSL certificates using the new beta features of the Admin API and gcloud command-line tool. These new beta features provide improved management, including the ability to automate mapping domains and uploading SSL certificates. Example commands are on the post.

Spinnaker 1.0

Spinnaker 1.0 is now available. It’s an open-source multi-cloud continuous delivery platform used in production at companies like Netflix, Waze, Target, and Cloudera. There’s also a new open-source command line interface tool called halyard that makes it easy to deploy Spinnaker itself.
